~Floors & Walls~

I cannot believe how fast this process has gone the past two weeks. I don't even have time to feel each piece of excitement before the next thing happens. So today I will be posting alot of pics and hopefully that will tell the story without too many words. Ready? Walls are going up, people!

Psalm 16 is one of our inheritance words.
We engraved it in our garage foundation. Look it up.
You'll love it!

Lumber is here. Shade baby!

This crew loves the breezy shade.

This pic cracked me up. Look closely. Doug's name is
written all over these stacks of lumber. How fitting.

Oh yes it is! A 3 car garage. We only have 2 vehicles. Doug said every man need
a place for all his stuff  tools. I'm surprised he didn't write his name in cement there.

Last sunset before the walls go up.

Front Door. Can't wait to welcome you in.

Back Yard. See that massive window? My new bedroom. (giddy)

Isn't that just the cutest tool belt?

From the front of house looking through to the back is the great room window.
The smaller window is the breakfast nook. I can smell the coffee times.

This guy is in his element. My boyfriend. The builder of dreams.

And here comes the roof!!!

I told you it was going fast. All this in about 1 1/2 weeks. This crew we have is an awesome bunch of guys. Only one speaks English, so our Spanish lessons are quite fun. I don't even know them, but I love them. One guys name is Romeo and I can't tell you how bad I want to say, 'Romeo, Romeo, where for art  . . . . you know how it goes. I'm gonna make them cookies one day just cause I like them so much. Doug reminded me that they will stop working if I do that. My gift of hospitality is getting the best of me before I even move in. Everybody needs a cookie.

I have loved all the comments & encouragement from everyone. A few of you have even stopped by to check things outs. It's so fun having company already. Can't wait to make you a pot of coffee so we can sit a spell.
We still have not got our heads around this. We are so overwhelmed with God's goodness in this process. Last night, we took some time to go enjoy the sunset for the first time since the walls went up. Doug keeps telling me that I have got to start calling it home. I still call it 'the property'. As we sat there, we laughed, we cried, we were so very very thankful to the One who gave it.

Lord, you alone are my inheritance, my cup of blessing. You guard all that is mine. The land you have given me is a pleasant land. What a wonderful inheritance!

Foundations

~foun·da·tion~
 noun \fan-ˈdā-shən\

: a stone or concrete structure that supports a building from underneath

In the simplest sense, foundations support something else.
Friendship is the foundation of a good marriage, and many svelte figures rely on girdles (known to underwear specialists as a foundation garment). But foundations are also charitable organizations. And in cosmetics, foundation is gooey make-up that's supposed to match your skin tone.
(vocabulary.com)

We have dug the foundation. The concrete structure that that will support our home. Exciting! I will admit that this process took place about 4 weeks ago, but I'm gonna pull the newbie blogger card for my excuse in not writing sooner.

We got so excited when the cement truck came!

A fascinating process to watch.

The next few pics will not mean much unless you take a closer look. In each corner of the house we buried Bibles in the foundation. Both Doug & I had a childhood Bible that we had kept, plus two other Bibles that we had used throughout the years. We also buried an old Bible that belonged to my Grandma Johnson. We put in right in the center of the house which will eventually be our great room.
Nan's Bible

We wrapped them in plastic and they are buried quite deep here before the rebar was put in.

Doug & I have talked about doing this for a long time. A good friend of mine did this in her house a few years ago and she still talks about going and standing at the place in her home when she prays or just knowing she is standing on the word. Here's the deal . . . Putting a bible in your foundation does not make us stand out or make this place anymore special, but what it does for us is remind us on what it is we stand on. How deeply our faith penetrates the very being of who we are. It is significant in the fact that it is THE foundation that supports all we do in our life. This is our retirement home. This is the home that we will welcome our friends in. This is the home where we will meet new friends. This is the home where our children will come to celebrate life events. This is the home that our grandchildren will have all their Papa & GG memories in. This is the home that Doug & I will grow old together in. A house built on a strong foundation. A foundation of love & faith. A faith in the One who gives more than we can ever imagine. I get chills just writing that.

Doug sent me this pic last week and this was his statement:

"It is rising up out of the ground! "

I have a hard time figuring out our floor plan with just cinder blocks. Doug has to keep reminding me that I am under the house when I am walking through the blocks. I keep saying things like: this is a really small front door, or how did the kitchen get so small? Needless to say, we are having a blast with this process. I know there are many decisions to go, but so far, so good. We have made decisions on windows, all the doors in the home, the front door ( took a while cause I tend to go for the most expensive and then I hear, "budget, baby, budget") & the windows around the door. So. Much. Fun. I can't wait to post pics for you when those things come in.
Doug's beloved garage. We have not owned a garage in our 35 years of marriage.
(Can I just say, he talks about it an awful lot. ;)
He made me laugh when he sent this text.
"Sitting out on our back porch"

Yep. It's all about this. Zoe & Hannah. And big boy Tyler.
And all the other grandchildren that have yet to be born.

Thank you for taking the time to read this since I know that concrete
is not the least bit exciting. Unless it's becoming your foundation.
